THIS SECTION IS NOT INTENDED AS A COMPLETE LIST OF NAIL DISEASES WE HAVE LISTED SOME OF THE MORE COMMON COMPLAINTS. PLEASE NOTE THAT NAIL SURGERY WILL NOT CURE ALL NAIL DISEASE. SOME PEOPLE MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR COSMETIC NAIL SURGERY. CAREFUL EXAMINATION AND CONSULTATION NEEDS TO BE UNDERTAKEN BEFORE TREATMENT OF ANY KIND IS PERMITTED.

A lot of patients come along to the clinics with problems relating to their nails, these can carry some psychological problems such as anxiety, embarrassment, and changes in normal social habits for the individual patient. The reasons for these problems are quite simple a patient may have a nail, which looks somehow different from other individual's nails. The patient may have a fungal infection, which will decolour and thicken the nails; the patient may have suffered a trauma to the nail, which has caused it to become somehow misshapen.

This patient has suffered multiple traumas to their nails. The third toe has undergone cosmetic nail surgery and now has good cosmetic appearance.

Patients may have a systemic disease, which may affect the nails typical examples are Psoriasis, or protein deficiencies. A systemic disease may need additional treatment or referral for treatment. If you decide to come along for a consultation we can arrange all you treatment needs.

Fungal Nail Infection

Fungal Nail Infection

Some patients may experience fungal nail infection. This is an incredibly common condition, which can cause much stress and anxiety. Some oral drugs can cures this condition. However, these drugs do carry some side effects mainly, nausea, vomiting, light sensitivity, and stomach irritation. This means that certain patients cannot take this drug. A good alternative is cosmetic nail surgery where these nails can easily be removed and allowed to grow back.

Regardless of the nail problem, the nails will look different from what is considered normal. Patients will tend to paint their nails more, wear different shoes, which are out of character for the patient's trends in fashion. This is a mechanism to hide away the nails so other people can see them. Sadly, it is mostly women that fall into this bracket. I'm sure that the scenario of not being able to wear strapped sandals during summer because of embarrassment due to toenails is something that most women can relate to.

These problems can cause anxiety and stop some patient from doing activities that they otherwise enjoy doing, some patients feel low self-esteem and often ask the question, "Why me?".  Most patients have never considered having cosmetic nail surgery. By using cosmetic nail surgery we can remove full or partial sections of any nail, we can allow the nail to grow back again or permanently stop the nail from growing. Many patients have had cosmetic nail surgery and are now leading lives free from embarrassment from their nails. Please also see the ingrown toenail section for more details.

Conclusion

We can diagnose the condition that is affecting your nails. Not all problems that arise in the nails are curable by cosmetic nail surgery. For piece of mind it may be worthwhile booking in for a consultation and diagnosis of your problematic nails.
